Concept

Designed for students of any level interested in strengthening their observational skills and their ability to represent the figure, this one-day workshop focuses on a progressive and anatomical approach to drawing.

Experience

Working from a live model, the morning focuses on gesture poses, massing major shapes and shadows, and capturing weight and action. The afternoon begins with a demonstration on surface anatomical landmarks and relationships, including the skull, ribcage - pelvis - spine, and arms and legs. Gain hands-on practice through longer poses with Will as your guide. Learn approaches for drawing the portrait before pulling the day’s lessons together through a final long pose. Individualized instruction is provided throughout the day and closes with a constructive review.

Skill Level

All levels are welcome; no prior figure drawing experience required.

INSTRUCTOR

Will Dickinson grew up in Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC, where he was exposed to the arts at a young age. This influenced his decisions to pursue an education at the University of Pennsylvania College of Arts and Sciences and the Glasgow School of Art, where he majored in Fine Arts and Anthropology, graduating with high honors. Will was a guest artist in Umbria, Italy for two years, which informed his artistic works and inspired him to become an instructor. For over a decade he has taught indoor and outdoor classes. Will is currently an instructor with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay, WI, where he maintains a studio.
