Concept
Printmaking is an ideal medium for experimentation. This workshop introduces the lively world of color relief; an easy, direct process using linoleum blocks that can be printed by hand or with a press. Learn cutting, registration, and printing techniques; explore color beyond the usual approach; and discover "wow" moments to help bring your work to the next level.
Experience
Using your plein air sketches and photographs, as well as finished paintings from the Door County Plein Air Festival as inspiration, work through the process from start to finish with Kate as your guide. Begin by cutting your image blocks and then move into experimenting with color, both in the background and your image itself. Blend rolls and transparent and opaque layers are explored along with "down and dirty" monoprint techniques that can happen directly on your color blocks or on additional monoprint plates. Leave this workshop with a stack of prints, technical knowledge, and new ways of thinking.
Skill Level
All levels welcome. No printmaking experience necessary.

INSTRUCTOR
Kate Borcherding is an artist driven primarily by ideas. She easily moves between 2D and 3D work as her research explorations have led her to drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. As a teacher, Kate’s goal is for students to leave with gained confidence, knowledge, resources, and skills to continue making art for many years to come. When not in the studio, she is dreaming up new things to cook, growing plants, and playing accordion. Kate earned her MFA from Indiana University and is a Professor at Sam Houston University (TX).
