Concept
In this hands-on workshop, push the boundaries of painting and image making as you build upon your knowledge of acrylics, explore material interactions using mixed media, and create new, experimental work.
Experience
The first half of the workshop focuses on the properties of acrylic materials and methods for working with them. Through a series of exercises, develop new acrylic working techniques, test how different materials interact with the medium, and explore mixed media approaches to painting. The second half of class is devoted to making larger and more finished work based on a genre or concept of your choosing; this can range from portraits of your loved ones to abstract inspired work to images of the Door County landscape. Come prepared with resource images and an open mind for how your initial ideas may change or transform as you move through the painting process. Gain feedback and insight in one-on-one sessions with Lydia, as well as full-class discussions and critiques.
Skill Level
Open to those interested in learning more advanced and experimental methods in acrylic. Prior painting experience is preferred.

Lydia Dildilian’s work translates layered landscapes, found and captured from video games, photographs, and appropriated images into recursive and experimental spaces. She has been included in dozens of solo and group exhibitions, as well as publications and private collections. Lydia earned her MFA from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is an Assistant Professor of Painting at Arkansas State University.
