Concept
Have you ever finished a painting, but wish you had chosen a different composition, color scheme, or focal point? In this one-day workshop, discover methods for developing impactful studio paintings from references by confronting and resolving key decisions early on.
Experience
Hector discusses his approach to determining the form and concept for a painting, analyzing sketches and studies, and refining a composition through drawing and painting techniques. Learn from live demonstrations and visual examples throughout the day. You are encouraged to bring in small sketches or studies, photographs, or reproductions of master paintings as your references for a larger painting. The discourse of this workshop centers on developing the roadmap for a finished painting that aligns with your intention and vision. Leave this workshop with handmade examples of process material and visual exercises, color charts, and drawings to accompany a larger painting started together in the studio.

Hector Acuna is a professional artist and educator living in Grafton, WI. He earned his MFA from Michigan State University and his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Hector has exhibited his work in galleries and museums throughout the US. In 2021, he began participating in regional plein air events and has since received over 25 awards. Plein Air magazine named Hector as one of three “Artists to Watch” in their 2022 October/November issue. Alongside teaching workshops, private lessons, and university-level courses, Hector has been invited as a juror and award judge for various exhibitions and events.
