Concept
Fold, tear, cut, arrange...This one-day workshop is all about creating a collage from paper, paint, and a little imagination. Composition, color, and surface design are key concepts during the layout process. Come away with a series of three collages that tell a thought-provoking story - real or imagined - to be presented as a traditional triptych or a small series of related works.
Experience
Begin by looking at collage examples for inspiration before diving in. You are provided with a pack of base paper, along with shared materials with which to work. Sarah demonstrates layout and adhesion methods, as well as composition strategies and how to create a single narrative across multiple pieces for cohesion. The workshop concludes with an informal look at everyone's collages and stories.

INSTRUCTOR
After working in encaustic for twenty years, Sarah Rehmer is still hungry to find new ways to push and manipulate the material. She encourages her students to learn and make work with an equally open and curious mind. With Sarah as your instructor, you can expect to learn hands-on and try everything at least twice. When not in the studio, she is usually out hiking the trails of a state park. Sarah earned her BA in Graphic Design and Photography from Dominican University and teaches workshops around the country.
