The Studios

  • Madeline Tourtelot Studio Building

    The studio environment is specifically designed for residents to pursue interdisciplinary projects within a supportive community. Residents have 24-hour access to 500+ square foot, semi-private workspaces in the Madeline Tourtelot Studio Building. Each space is equipped with large tables, ample wall space, natural and artificial light, heavy duty easels, if needed, and wi-fi. 

  • Printmaking Studio

    The printmaking studio is equipped with a Dickerson Combination Press (27x48” bed), Graphic Chemical etching press (18x48” bed), as well as a Vastex LED exposure unit (21x28” exposure area), power washer, printing stations with hinge clamps, and silkscreens (110 and 180 mesh) for screen printing. Brayers, ink knives, scoop coaters, squeegees, spatulas, and plexiglass sheets are available for all to use. Shop fees for emulsion and inks are charged according to individual usage. Residents are encouraged to order specialty inks, paper, plates, wood, and other matrices needed for projects.

  • Digital Studio

    Still expanding, our digital equipment includes a HP DesignJet Z9+ (up to 44” wide sheet and roll) with chromatic inks, Epson 8550 EcoTank (up to 13” wide sheet), and Dukane LCD Image Pro projector. Ink, sheet, and roll papers are charged by the square inch. Alternatively, approved inkjet paper can be purchased by a supplier of the resident’s choice.

  • Metals Studio

    Fully equipped, our metals studio is outfitted with Silver Smith torch tank setups using acetylene gas, Foredom flex shafts, Bonny Doon hydraulic press, Durston rolling mill (6:1), grinding and polishing motor set, guillotine shear, polishing tumblers, drill press, belt and disc sanders, electric grinders, Paragon kilns, and an extensive inventory of hand tools for forging, metalsmithing, and enameling. Residents are encouraged to bring personal tools and hardware crucial to their practice, as well as order any metal sheet, wire, stones, enamel, and any other materials needed for projects.

  • Ceramics Studio

    The ceramics studio is equipped with Pacifica electric wheels, slab roller (36x72”), canvas covered worktables, extruder, wedging table, variety of underglazes and glazes, and a Bartlett electric kiln than can fire to Cone 10 and accommodate pieces 22” tall and 26” wide. Laguna B-Mix 5 with Grog is available for purchase in 25lb quantities or can be purchased from a supplier of the resident’s choice. Fees apply for bisque firings, glaze use, and glaze firings.
