Crafting Personal Symbolism - Developing Your Visual Language with Kassandra Palmer
Saturday, September 19 | 9am-4pm
Drawing | Any Painting Media | All Levels
Members: $175 | Non-Members: $185
Concept
In this one-day workshop, explore how symbols, archetypes, and intuitive imagery can become powerful tools for creative expression. With Kassandra as your guide, learn how to identify the motifs, shapes, and themes that naturally arise from your inner world - and how to transform them into a cohesive visual language.
Experience
Through reflection, drawing, collage, mixed-media play, and gentle instruction, begin to translate your inner world into symbolic forms. Along the way, look at how artists across cultures use symbolism to convey emotion and identity, and how you can develop a visual vocabulary that feels distinctly your own. Leave with a collection of exploratory sketches, a set of personalized symbols, and a clearer understanding of how to use visual metaphor to enrich your creative practice.
Skill Level
Open to both beginners and experienced artists with an open mind and willingness to explore.
Instructor
Kassandra Palmer is a multi-media artist. Originally trained in traditional oil painting methods, her practice has grown to include elements of painting, drawing, sewing, and sculpture. Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, her work is largely symbolic and explores themes of psychology and metaphysics. Kassandra lives in Madison, WI with her husband and daughters, three cats, one dog, and a seemingly infinite amount of neighborhood turkeys. She earned her MFA from the University of Iowa and has taught at the University of Iowa, Carroll University, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
