Concept and Experience
Pulling inspiration from pets, local wildlife, and exotic animals, young artists create a series of functional and sculptural ceramic pieces. Using low-fire clay and pinch, coil, and slab construction techniques, students learn how to make animal-based masks, stand-alone sculptures, and inspired cups and planters. The work of Julie Clements, Debbie Kupinsky, and Hannah Lee Cameron are referenced. Each piece is enhanced with pattern, color, and texture using brightly colored underglazes.
