Botanical Illustration with Rebecca Jabs
Tues-Thurs, July 7-9 | 9am-4pm
Watercolor | All Levels
Members: $430 | Non-Members: $460
Concept
Botanical illustration focuses on accurate and artistic depictions of plants, faithfully representing a plant's form, color, and detail. This workshop combines art and science through observation and techniques in drawing and watercolor painting.
Experience
Demonstrations and hands-on practice introduce basic techniques for rendering plants in pencil and watercolor, working from live plant references. Guided explorations in flower dissection, observational drawing, and watercolor painting enhance the experience as you learn to look closely. Nurture your creativity, improve your artistic skill, and experience plants in a new way.
Skill Level
Open to students of all levels working in drawing and watercolor; some drawing/watercolor experience is helpful but not mandatory.
Instructor
Rebecca Jabs is an artist and educator whose work is an observation of nature with a hint of narrative. Her philosophy and methods encourage students to develop a closer relationship with nature - draw to learn as you learn to draw! Rebecca has a background and degree in art education, but her dual interests in art and science led her to the Science Illustration Graduate Program at California State University at Monterey Bay. Today she works as a freelance illustrator and part-time college drawing instructor. When not making work, Rebecca is an active member of the birding community; going few places without a pair of binoculars.
