Concept

Using the bonded sand method, learn the art of aluminum casting in this engaging and labor-intensive workshop. Create a bonded sand mold of an original wax, oil-based clay, and/or found object sculpture or transform a pattern made prior to class.

Experience

Teresa guides you step-by-step through the bonded sand method of aluminum casting, resulting in a finished sculpture. Spend the first day creating a simple sculpture for casting, followed by hands-on practice making a mold, using the melt furnace, and pouring metal. On the final day, cut, grind, and file excess metal and use finishing and coloring processes to complete your piece. Expect a moderate amount of labor.

Skill Level

All levels welcome; beginners to advanced.

Instructor

Teresa Lind's start in fine arts was in drawing and painting. Her love for sculpture didn't develop until her fourth year in undergrad at UW-Oshkosh. Today her practice involves iron, bronze, and aluminum casting. Recently Teresa shared her outdoor sculpture in a solo exhibition at Cedarburg Art Museum. When not making work, she is either teaching, working on her house, or running Lavina Makers Boutique in Hortonville, WI. Teresa holds an MFA from UW-Milwaukee.
