Discover how and why contemporary abstraction looks the way it does and why it remains a viable and exciting path for artists. Participate in discussion and Q&A throughout. All are welcome.
Instructor
As an educator, Shane Walsh helps students connect to the fact that making art is fun and exciting. In his own practice, he makes abstract paintings that are visually thrilling, yet encourage the viewer to think more deeply about what they are seeing. Shane is represented by Asya Geisberg Gallery (NY) and is a co-founder of Door County Contemporary, a three-day art fair held annually in Fish Creek. When not in the studio, he can be found at the beach; swimming as much as Wisconsin’s weather permits. Shane holds an MFA from the University of Washington and teaches at UW-Milwaukee.

"Shane is a great teacher for those who want to develop their interests in painting and gain more skill at executing. He is a lot of fun, as well as warm, supportive, and perceptive. He provides information about abstraction with demonstration and slides. He shares his wisdom and psychological savvy about paintings. He builds community and is readily accessible for individual consultation. This is the second time I’ve taken this course and I hope to take it again. I highly recommend this class and instructor. "
