Concept
Designed for those who want to take their photography beyond the captured image, this workshop focuses on experimentation and play. Explore a variety of alternative processes to creating final works of art, including cyanotypes, hand colored photography, alcohol transfers, weaving photographs, and creating a small photo book.
Experience
Begin the workshop with an overview of the processes and considerations for capturing images best suited for each. As a group, head out into the field to collect a bank of images with which to further experiment. Demonstrations and hands-on practice introduce each technique and how to prepare your digital files for next steps, including printing images for transfers and weavings and creating film positives for cyanotypes. Expect to spend about a day working with each process. Leave this workshop with a stack of experimental works and the ability to continue adapting your photography and style. Open to all digital camera formats, including DSLR, point-and-shoot, and smartphone.
Skill Level
All levels welcome. Familiarity with your camera is recommended.

INSTRUCTOR
Angela Johnson is an artist and educator with a creative spirit. Her teaching career started as a 5th grade Language Arts teacher. No matter the classroom, her teaching philosophy remains the same – give students the tools to grow from learner to leader in both art and life. When not making work, teaching, or working with individuals, groups, and organizations as a creative coach, Angela can be found meditating, kayaking, or scuba diving. She earned her Masters in Art Education and MFA from UW-Madison.
