Concept

Designed for students of any level interested in strengthening their perceptual drawing skills and their ability to represent the figure in space, this workshop focuses on a constructive and anatomical approach to drawing.

Experience

Join Amy as she discusses and demonstrates topics related to simplifying the complex human form into understandable and repeatable simple solids. Further your knowledge of perspective, human anatomy, bony landmarks, muscle shapes and placement, proportions, and gesture. Spend two days studying the head and facial features and complete a classical line portrait drawing using conté crayon or graphite. The following two days are dedicated to the full figure, learning how to mannequinize the figure, add anatomical landmarks, create a final drawing that is convincing, dynamic, and beautiful.

Skill Level

All levels welcome. No prior figure drawing experience required.

INSTRUCTOR

Though her creative work is in photography, Amy Fichter is trained in classical life drawing and teaches it daily. As an educator, she has a deep regard for the tradition of constructive drawing. Learning that methodology changed Amy’s life as an artist and is one she shares with her students. When not in the studio, she lifts weights and competes in CrossFit and bodybuilding, reads, gardens, and spends time with her husband and their cats. Amy earned her MFA from the University of South Carolina and teaches at UW-Stout.
