Concept & Experience

Join 2023 Door County Plein Air Festival Best of Show awardee Bethann Moran-Handzlik for a dynamic and interactive presentation on plein air painting. Designed for those curious about plein air, beginning and seasoned collectors, art enthusiasts, plein air painters, and PenArt friends, this half-day experience features a lecture, insider's look at the genre, and a mini-workshop on how to see like a painter. Begin the morning with a first-hand look at Bethann's plein air setup, as well as her favorite "secret" tools. Participate in a conversational presentation of plein air images, beginning with art history and concluding with commentary on plein air painting. Discuss how to discern a quality painting. The morning ends outside for insight on the open-air experience as Bethann takes the group through looking exercises that engage a "painter's mindset". No art making experience necessary. Bring a notebook and enjoy a morning with friends.
