Concept
This one-day workshop is designed to introduce students to the best way of learning how to draw the features - by studying and drawing from John Vanderpoel's famous book "The Human Figure". At the Art Institute of Chicago, Vanderpoel instructed students such as J.C. Leyendecker, Frederick Carl Frieseke, and Georgia O'Keefe. O'Keefe later called Vanderpoel "one of the few real teachers I have known." "The Human Figure" published in 1907, has become a standard reference for artistic anatomy. It is especially useful in learning the features: the eye, the nose, the mouth, the ear.
Experience
Working with the simple materials of toned paper, graphite, and white chalk, complete a series of tonal studies that are sure to provide insight for years to come. Stuart provides brief demonstrations and individualized feedback throughout the day.
