Critique Group

Open to artists of all backgrounds and media.

We All Need Feedback

There’s a reason why writers have editors. No matter how well you write, there will be mistakes. The editor sees the work with a different set of “eyes” and can suggest improvements and offer new ideas.

As artists, we also need a second (or third) “set of eyes” on our work. We need to know how our work can be improved. We need to understand how our work is perceived by our audience – the viewer. Sometimes we can spot issues on our own, but most times we need input from others. This is where critique becomes an important part of our development as artists.

First Friday of the Month, 3-5pm

Upcoming Sessions: April 5 May 3 • Jun 7 • Jul 5 • Aug 2 • Sep 6 • Oct 4

Cost: Free

PenArt’s Critique Group is open to artists of all backgrounds and media. Moderated by PenArt’s Director of Education Elysia Michaelsen, artists reserve a 30-minute block to show and discuss your work, or just come and share your viewpoints and learn from other artists.

Discussion formats will range from open group conversation to written critiques. Artists are also invited to share and discuss readings with the group that in some way influences making, interpreting, or reading visual work.

Email to reserve your spot.
